Hi I’m Gareth, owner of Black Sky Blade Co.

After leaving the Royal Navy in 2014 I struggled to find a job that I enjoyed, but I always knew I wanted to work with my hands and make something for a living.

I’ve always enjoyed cooking and various outdoor exploits such as cave diving, spearfishing, canoeing and exploring the hills and woods of Shropshire which often involved camping and cooking over fire. So in 2021, after my camp knife snapped, I decided to have a go at making my own.

Since then, I have been hooked and have dedicated myself to learning how to make the best knives I can.

I am always pushing to provide the best product for the end user. I send all of my designs to be tested in professional kitchens or in the great outdoors with my explorer pals, so they have all been put through their paces before being made available to buy!

Since 2025, I have been based at the Greenwood Centre in Coalbrookdale, Shropshire. If you are local, please feel free to pop down to see my work and say hello. My workshop is opposite the fantastic Embers Cafe ran by Adam, ‘The Shropshire Lad’, and his team.
